Cataract Surgery
Cataract is the ‘clouding’ of the eye lens. Most cataracts are due to normal ageing process. Symptoms include blurred vision, multiple images, glare and patients see washed out colours when looking with that eye.
Macular Degeneration
Macular Degeneration is the most common cause of poor vision in people over 50 years of age. It affects the central part of the retina, reducing reading vision. It is of 2 types, dry and wet.
Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a disease of the optic nerve which causes loss of peripheral nerve fibres most commonly due to raised intraocular pressure of your optic nerve. It can be hereditary so it is important to have family members examined as well.
Pterygium
It is an overgrowth of conjunctiva which grows like a reddish swelling towards the cornea (the clear parts of the eye). It usually happens in surfers due to excessive sun and wind exposure. It causes redness, irritation and watering.
Eyelid Surgery
Our eye surgeons also offer treatment for lid tumours, lid pathologies like ectropion (outward turning of eyelids) entropion (inward turning of eyelids) and dermatochalasis (excessive lid skin).
Diabetic Retinopathy
Diabetic Retinopathy is an eye disease caused by complications of diabetes and is the most common cause of blindness in working age adults in Australia. Diabetes damages the blood vessels that nourish the retina part of the eye that enables us to see.
